The Magic Bed

Prolific children’s book writer and illustrator John Burningham’s book ‘The Magic Bed‘ remains a firm favourite in our family. I used the story with my after-school writing club as a starting point for the children to think about what their magic word would be for their bed to take flight. Using atlases and picture books for inspiration, we also thought about the following ideas: Where will the bed take you? Who will you meet? What adventures will you have and will you get into any sticky situations?

With an activity like this, it’s impossible not to have ideas flood your imagination. I mean, who wouldn’t love for their bed to suddenly rise up from the ground and take them on adventures in the dead of night? 🙂
